Salmon Fly Fishing British Columbia Canada
Part 3 : The Skeena River and the Fish. As I said the river is a monster and to get around a jet boat or jet raft is the best option to reach the extensive braids and shingle beaches. We fished a section 40ks above the tidal flow.
This river is hundreds kilometres in length with many vast tributes and is driven by year round snow melt and this results in a blue grey light discolouration which is not a problem. The best time to fish is August when all the species are in the river system.
The river is the highway for millions of Chinook, Chum, Pinks and Coho all members of the Pacific Salmon species which migrate to the many large tributes to spawn and die thus contributing to the vast ecosystem flowing all the way back to the sea. The exception being Steelhead, a large sea run rainbow trout. These fish spawn and then return to the ocean. Fish sizes over these species range from 6lb to 50lb.
