The Delatite River is a small mountain stream with runs and rapids developing into larger pools and flowing through farmland into Lake Eildon.

Now that the snow melt is gone the Delitite is at a fishable level but moving through the pools fast.

Long droppers and heavy nymphs are required.

Be on your toes as you might hook something big and he/she may well cart you down the river.  Move fast or loose it.

The upper reaches are usually still too fast.   Best to wait till Christmas time and full Summer.   However, Jamieson Road to Howqua River area has longer structured pools and should now be fished.  This is open farmland and, here comes that word again, terrestrials are out and about.

Hoppers, beetles, ant and attractor patterns like the Royal Wulff and Stimulator bring the fish up.    The Delitite has made a bit of a return to its former glory due to Fisheries Management and volunteer work.   It is now producing quality size trout.
  • Best Practice Tip: Get the land owners permission if planning to fish well away from the road access.
